Barbara’s Gold Story
As a watch journalist there is much I continue to learn about the world of horology; about how watches are made, about who wears them, and about what they’re made of. But I also know what I like, what I am willing to wear, and what means something to me. While steel may reign as the metal most used by watchmakers, it is karat gold that has seen a significant jump in its usability in Swiss watchmaking since 2012. Yet regardless of what the statistics say and what the percentages represent, I know how my gold watch – an heirloom from the late 1940’s – makes me feel: worthy of the life I’ve chosen to lead, and of the career path I’ve chosen to take.
